Dr. Ajjarapu Srirama
Rao, Principal, was born in 1946 and had his early
education in Rajahmundry.
He graduated in Civil Engineering from the College
of Engineering, Kakinada in 1968.
After obtaining his Master's from the Regional
Engineering College,
Warangal, and serving
on the faculty of Civil Engineering in the same college, he moved over to the
JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada, 1974. He became a
Professor in 1990. In the meantime, he obtained Ph.D. degree. He became the
Vice-Principal of the college in 1998 and Principal in 1999. He served as
Principal till June 2001. After retirement as Professor in July 2006, he joined
as Director and Principal, KIET, Korangi and served
for 10 months. He took over as Principal of R.I.T., Yanam
on 21st June 2007.
Prof. Srirama Rao
is an accomplished teacher and an avid researcher. A recipient of the Andhra
Pradesh State Government's Best Teacher Award, he has guided 5 Ph.Ds. and over 70 M.Tech. theses. He has about 70 research publications including 10
papers in international journals, about half-a-dozen in international
conferences besides papers in national journals and conferences. He has
conducted over a dozen conferences, seminars and symposia at the national
level. Prof. Rao was the Chairman of the Millennium
Meet in 2000 and the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the J.N.T.U.
College of Engineering, Kakinada,
in 2006, both of which were resounding successes.
A person widely known in academic circles, Prof. Sreerama Rao served as a member
of several committees including those of UGC, AICTE, UPSE, APSCHE, IRC and so on. He was a member of the Board of studies of
several Universities besides NIT, Warangal. He has been recently
appointed as a member of the expert committee for drafting the national
building code by the Bureau of Indian Standards. He served as chairman for
several technical sessions at national conferences and delivered expert talks.
He was elected as a member of the National Executive Committee of the Indian
Geotechnical Society for the fifth time.
Prof. Sreerama Rao
is a multi-faceted personality with interest and skills in several fields. He
served as the President of the Institutions of Engineers(I),
Kakinada
local centre. He is the Chairman of the Kakinada
Chapter of the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture
Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) and the Vice-President of East Godavari
District Cricket Association. He is the Charter President of Lions Club, Kakinada Professional. He served as Zone Chairman in Lions
District 324C1.
Prof. Rao is a member of several service
organizations. He is a connoisseur of music, both classical and light and a
lover of sports.
