This is the Ever Green Branch and one of the largest departments having well-qualified and experienced staff.
The Mechanical Engineering Department is well developed such that the Institution will have a close interaction with Industry for sharing knowledge and facilities.
Industry-Institute Interaction
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has received sub-contract jobs from M/s. Sri Bhavani Castings (P) Limited, Kakinada and successfully completed their first phase of orders to their satisfaction. Further, RIT also received few samples from them on material testing of their components, which is being done in our Material Testing Lab. Negotiations are going on to bag further orders from not only M/s Sri Bhavani Castings but also other local industries.
The Department caters to the needs of students of other disciplines as well. It provides sound knowledge in Engineering Graphics, which is known as language of Engineers and Engineering Mechanics. The applications are contributing substantially for the development of modern engineering.
Workshop Top
The Department provides excellent Workshop facilities in a sprawling space of 900 sq. meters and training is provided in Carpentry, Fitting, Welding, Tin smithy and Foundry.
Machine Shop and Production Engineering Laboratory
Apart from normal Lathes, Shaper, Drilling Machines etc., the machine shop is having HMT cylindrical grinding machine, Hobbing Machine, CNC Lathe and serves the needs of the Industry also.
Material Testing Laboratory
This Lab consists of UTM, Hardness Tester, Torsion Testing Equipment, and Impact Tester etc. and has been established to meet the demands for testing construction materials.
Thermal Engineering Laboratory
This lab is divided into two sections and is installed in a space of 450 Sq. m.
Heat Transfer Laboratory
This Lab consists of the following equipment. Heat Exchanger, Free Convection, Forced Convection, Pin fin, Thermal Conductivity of Composite Material, Refrigeration Tutor Test Rig and Air Conditioning Apparatus. It is also providing space for experimental projects.
IC Engines & Fuels Laboratory
This lab accommodates 2-stroke Petrol engine, 4-stroke Diesel Engine, Multi Cylinder Petrol Engine & 4-stroke Petrol Engine. Besides these machines, all the experimental set ups for conducting experiments is Fuels lab are installed.
Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Machinery Laboratory
This Lab is fully equipped with Francis Turbine, Kaplan Turbine, Pelton Wheel, Turbine Pump, Centrifugal Pump, Gear Pump, Reciprocating Pump, Vane Pump, Jet Pump and Submersible Pump. Besides, these machines all the experimental set ups for conducting experiments in fluid mechanics are installed in an area of about 450 sqm.
Dynamics of Machines Laboratory
This Lab consists of vibration testing equipment, gyroscope, governor apparatus and cam analysis equipment, journal bearing apparatus, creep measuring equipment and gear profile generating equipment.
CAD/CAM Laboratory
This Lab is provided with latest software in AUTO CAD and software for Finite Element Analysis.
Other Labs in the department include Metrology, Metallurgy and Mechanical Measurements.
The Laboratories and equipment are updated with the latest technological developments and with a vision for everlasting Industry-Institution interaction.
