Prof. G. Satyanarayana has taken the charge as Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department in April 2011. A Post Graduate from IIT Madras in Mechanical Engineering, he has 38 years of experience in Aerospace, Industrial Research & Development, Renewable Energy Sources, Software Development and General Management. He worked with VSSC/ISRO and companies like Advani-Oerlikn Ltd and Thermax Ltd. He associated with DST as a member of advisory committee on Rankine Organic Cycle and member of Renewable Energy committee of Maharashtra to popularize new and renewable energies, He is member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers(ASME) and International Solar Energy Society (ISES). He is a life member of ISTE. He has to his credit 5 technical papers presented in National Seminars and 16 internal documents on design and analysis of liquid rocket engine components.
The department of Mechanical engineering has been functioning since 2000-2001 with an intake of 60. The department has well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty having P.G qualification in different streams and some of them are pursuing doctoral programmes. The department has good infrastructure with different labs like Workshops, Engineering graphics lab, Thermal Engineering Labs, Material Testing lab, Dynamics of machines lab, Metallurgy lab, Manufacturing Processes labs, Fluid mechanics and Hydraulics machines lab, Mechanical measurements & Metrology lab and CAD lab. All the labs are fully equipped to cater the present day technology. Computer lab is fully equipped with necessary systems and software.
Every year our final year students are encouraged to write GATE, CAT, GRE and TOFEL exams.. Students are encouraged to participate in State and National level paper contests. National level student paper contest is being held in the Department every year.
Our Students go to industry to take training or to do mini project. As of now our final students are doing mini project at companies like BHEL Hyderabad, KCP Heavy Engineering Chennai, Bharat Dynamics Hyderabad, Steel Plant Vizag and BHEL Tiruchy.
The Department has its own association called Society of Mechanical Students (SMS) and conducts many technical talks, seminars, quiz etc. Every semester minimum six guest lectures are being arranged in addition to above activities. The dept conducts Department Advisory Committee meeting every year by inviting two experts one each from Industry and Academia to share their experiences, knowledge, developments that can be taken up in the dept in order to strengthen the dept as a whole which in turn beneficial to the students even for their better placements also.
The dept is having better industry-institute interaction used to provide the Industrial training to the final year students for complete semester in order to have better exposure on the latest techniques adopted in the industry etc. The dept is also providing on campus technical training programmes to the students on different software packages like Pro-E, Ansys etc. Our students participating in national and state level technical competitions and there by winning many prizes showing their hidden talents. The department is also associated with ISTE activities which give the students to improve and update their technical knowledge and personality development by conducting good programs.
