The Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is one of the first few departments of the 'Regency Institute of Technology' that were established in the year 2000 with a view to have close liaison with the Industries. It has qualified teaching faculty and different laboratories of the department are well equipped specially to meet the academic standards according to the Syllabus stipulated by the Pondicherry University and the standard norms fixed by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. In addition, the laboratories are also developed keeping in view of the Modern Technology scenario and they are at par with the laboratories at reputed Institutes. The department has sophisticated infrastructure facilities in terms of Internet (for students and staff), Computer center, Computer Controlled Process Laboratory, latest version of MATLAB software, SCADA software etc.
Three batches of students have completed their courses from the Regency Institute of Technology. Most of the first and second batch graduates are well placed in Industries including software firms and as teaching faculty at various Engineering colleges, all over the country.
The Department has established the following Laboratories:
1. Electronic Devices & Circuit Design Lab
2. Transducers & Measurements Lab
3. Electronics and Instrumentation Lab
4. Process Control Lab
5. Computer Control of process Lab
6. Design Project Lab
7. Servicing Lab
Electronic Devices and Circuit Design Lab
Electronic Devices and Circuits Design lab provides rigorous training in the basics of electronic devices and the design of Electronic Circuits. The students are helped to acquire hands - on experience in conducting the experiments.
Transducers & Measurement Lab
Students conduct Experiments related to transducers, which mainly consists of measurements of temperature, displacement, force, pressure, strain and inductance etc. They also use ICs LM335 & AD 590 in measurement of temperature and pressure.
Electronic Instrumentation Lab
Students conduct experiments related to Calibration of Ammeter, Voltmeter, Single-Phase Energy meter. Designing of Frequency meter, signal conditioning and transmitting circuits can also be done in this Lab.
Process Control Lab
The Process control lab contains process control units like Level, Temperature, Pressure, Flow and PH control. Students will conduct Experiments in Closed Loop Temperature, Flow, Pressure and Level control. Students can study the characterstics of Linear, equal percentage and quick opening type Control Valves in this Lab.
Computer Control of Process Lab
The facility to control the process-using computers is available in computer controlled Process laboratory. Students will implement the Programs in Programmable Logic Controls and Programmable PID Controllers. In this Laboratory we can find out the Online Process Parameters with the help of Least Square Estimate method. Experiments in the laboratory are designed to simulate industrial environment.
Design Project Lab
The design project lab is useful for the student to acquire knowledge of the designing, testing and calibration of instruments like 3 ½ digit voltmeter, function generators, regulated power supplies, DAC & ADC and P, PI, PID and ON/OFF controllers.
Servicing Lab
This lab is intended to give an idea about the construction and operation of various equipments like visual display units, power supplies, micro controller based systems etc. The student can acquire sum fault finding and servicing techniques in control loops, transmitters, receivers, PC networking, communication devices.
Industrial Tours
Every year, the students visit various industries for exposure to Latest technologies and learn about the Industry Institute interaction and the research activities at various institutes.
Industry-Institution interaction
Students do their project works during VII and VIII semesters (final year). Some students do their project works at Regency Ceramics Limited, Yanam.
During vacation, students undergo in-plant training at various industrial campuses like:
1. Regma Ceramics Limited, Karaikal
2. Regency Ceramics Limited, Yanam
3. Vizag steel Plant, Visakhapatnam
4. Coromandel Fertilizers limited, Visakhapatnam
5. Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited, Kakinada
6. Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, Hyderabad
7. Andhra sugars, Tanuku and so on.
ELITE - Students' Association for the EIE Department
The students regularly conduct seminars and quiz programs. ELITE has conducted a National Level Technical Symposium on "Applications of Instrumentation in other Disciplines", on 17th, 18th and 19th December 2004 and released a CD named DIGILITE. Students from various Engineering colleges from all parts of the country belonging to all engineering disciplines have participated the symposium. In the year 2005 the ELITE has released a CD named Foray Lexicon, which will be useful for all the specializations. In the year 2006 the ELITE conducted a Three day state level Technical event "TECHNICINE-07" (Paper presentation, Project Exhibition, Technical Quiz) and released a magazine "ASPIRE-07".
