The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established in the year 2000.
The undergraduate program is designed for students who may wish to delay their decisions until the end of the fifth semester as to which of the several fields of Electrical and Electronic Engineering they will choose. Successful candidates are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the end of the fourth year. During the summer vacation period students are expected to spend a minimum number of working days in industries.

Objectives:
The educational objectives of the undergraduate program of the RIT Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department are:
1. Our graduates will develop abilities in the application of the necessary mathematical tools, scientific basics, and fundamental knowledge of the profession
2. Our graduates will develop professional skills that prepare them for employment by the most advanced public and/or private R&D organizations like Regency Ceramics Limited, etc.
3. Our graduates will be provided sufficient breadth and depth for successful subsequent graduate study, post-graduate study or life-long learning
4. Our graduates will be provided with an educational foundation that prepares them for leadership roles in the profession
5. Our graduates will develop an understanding of the social, technical and human context in which their engineering contributions will be utilized
6. Our graduates will develop the ability to organize and present information and the ability to express ideas effectively in written and oral form.

Subjects Offered:
Electrical Machines, Circuit theory, Electronics are offered as core subjects. During 6th, 7th and 8th semesters higher level papers on Electrical Engineering such as Transmission and distribution of Electrical Power, Electrical Machine design, Industrial power drive, Power system operation and control, Switch gear and protection, Micro processors, control system, Industrial Electronics etc are offered. During 8th semester, optional papers on specialized fields such as High voltage Engineering, Industrial Management, Solid state relays and HVDC Transmission are offered. During the last three semesters more intensive sessionals and project work, relevant to technological need of a professional Electrical Engineer are undertaken. Electronics experiments are offered to acquaint the students with the application of linear and digital circuits. The students undertake the project work and have scope to demonstrate creative talents in tackling realistic engineering problems in addition to practical training in industries.

The curriculum is updated from time to time to keep pace with demands of the nation. The major goals are to maintain an excellent academic record in the department and thus improve the quality of the undergraduate programmes. In order to achieve this, the department aims at having faculty members of very good academic background and also makes arrangements for updating their Knowledge to keep pace with the recent advances of the technologies. The prime objective of the department is to cater to the needs of the society at global level in general and national level in particular. The department urges the faculty members for developing research facilities and laboratories of national standards for the students and staffs of the parent institute and the sister institutes. Students are encouraged to take part in different national level seminars and conferences at their level.

Departmental Laboratories:
1. Electrical Machines Laboratory
2. Electrical Measurements Laboratory
3. Power Electronics and Drives Laboratory
4. Control Systems Engineering Laboratory
5. Power Systems Simulation Laboratory

6. Basic Electrical Laboratory.

Institute-Industry Interaction:
The department has liaison with reputed industries like Regency Ceramics Limited, Yanam and Regma Ceramics Limited, Karaikal etc. Students are encouraged to take part of educational tours visiting different power stations and industries related to their core subjects.

Association Activities:
All the Students of the department are members of the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Association (ELECTRES) functioning under the Department. Through these student associations, regular meetings are organized. Experts from various fields are invited to deliver guest lectures

Achievements:
1. Final year EEE students are doing WIND MILL as a project. This project cost is sponsored by our institute.
